I have noticed lately that I have been witnessing miracle after miracle day after day and I have done absolutely nothing about it. MIRACLES PEOPLE!!! Meanwhile, I sit on the couch with my pint full of Haagen Dazs and wine until my hearts content. So I have decided to shake things up a bit and start digging a little deeper than the bottom of my ice cream bowl. Not to mention a little positivity never hurt anyone either.
For anyone who knows me whether it be 5min or 20years, you have quickly learned that I HATE the cold. I can often be quoted with some remark of living in a "frozen tundra" or "Antarctica". Needless to say, I have loved living in Utah, but Jack Frost and I have not been the best of friends to say the least. So this post may come to a shock to many when you read the following:
Today the snow is BEAUTIFUL...as I sit by the window covered in warm blankets and 10 layers of clothing, there is something soothing about the endless snowfall that makes everything a little more heavenly. My mother loves the snow...I will never forget her visit last year and her complete bliss at the storm that came through. She just stood on the deck and soaked it in with complete contentment. Ever since then there is an unexpected comfort when it snows that reminds me of her pure joy at the miracle of snow.
Something happens when it snows that makes everything go still...it is a "silence full of sound" as Medoff writes. I am learning to appreciate this phrase more and more each day. There is something serene and reassuring about silence now that I hope to appreciate and learn more about in the coming years. It is an unrecognized principle that too often gets muddled and forgotten in a world teeming with sound from every crook and cranny. So today I am grateful for snow...for reminding me of the power of stillness and the sweet words my mother often said growing up, "Be still little one"...and of how these words echo that of the greatest teacher, "Be still and know that I am God".
